Position Summary
In order to strengthen UNC SOM ultrasound education, we are looking for a Sonography Education Faculty Member (SEFM). The SEFM will work with the Clinical Ultrasound Director to continue to provide Foundation Phase ultrasound education in close collaboration with the PCC course directors. The SEFM will also work with the Application Phase clinical champions in collaboration with the clinical course directors to facilitate ongoing education during clinical rotations and expand ultrasound education to CBLC, CSP, and Individualization Phase. The SEFM should have ultrasound expertise as well as educational and leadership experience.
Responsibilities will include:
* In person teaching for the Foundation Phase sessions within PCC
o Fall 2023 - 6 sessions
o Spring 2024 - 4 session
* Hosting additional optional monthly open scan sessions for students
o One half day per month
* Administer Ultrasound CSE in collaboration with the Ultrasound Director for the MS2 class
o 3 day CSE
* Leading scanning sessions, or ultrasound rounds for the Application Phase HISC students in collaboration with the clinical champions
o Medicine Estimated one half day per week
o Surgury Estimated one half day per week
* Leading scanning sessions, or ultrasound rounds for the Application Phase CSP and CDLC students in collaboration with the clinical champions
o CSP Estimated one half day per week
o CDLC Estimated one half day per week
* Create and update curriculum material to satisfy learning objectives for each stage of learning in the Medical School four year program
* Provide instructions and teaching aides for handheld checkout practice and review images to improve students scanning ability
* Participate in and assist with image review, ensuring proficiency of students via checklist/QA of
Images
* Develop educational outcomes of the US curriculum in collaboration with others
* Provide training/educational materials to the sonographer pool
* Create rounds/sonographer schedules and ensure coverage is adequate for scanning sessions
* Work with faculty, students, and residents to identify opportunities for scholarship
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Associate's degree and 3-5 years' experience. Should have at least one of the following: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT).
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Teaching experience and a broad ultrasound background.
